TREE CARE

At Santa & Mikey’s, we want to help you keep your tree looking its best throughout the holiday season. Follow these expert tips to maintain freshness and enjoy your tree to the fullest.

1. Make a Fresh Cut

Before placing your tree in a water bowl, it’s essential to make a fresh cut on the bottom of the trunk. Use a manual saw or chainsaw for the cleanest cut. Avoid using a reciprocating saw, as the friction can create heat, causing the sap to dry and seal the cut, which prevents the tree from absorbing water.

Once the cut is made, place the tree in water as quickly as possible to keep it hydrated.

2. Choose the Right Water Bowl and Fill Properly

To keep your tree fresh, select a water bowl that fits the trunk and provides ample water capacity:

  • For Standard Trees (4–8 feet): Use a 5-quart bowl and fill it with 4 quarts of water.

  • For Larger Trees (Over 8 feet): Ensure the bowl is filled to at least 80% capacity after the stump is placed in. Choose a bowl that accommodates the diameter of the trunk.

Make sure the water level always remains at least 1 inch above the bottom cut of the tree. If the water level drops below the cut, the base of the tree will seal, making it difficult for the tree to absorb water again.

3. Keep Your Tree Hydrated

Check the water level daily to ensure your tree stays hydrated. Larger trees may require more water, especially during the first few days after setup. Maintaining a constant water level is key to keeping your tree vibrant and fragrant.

4. Place Your Tree in a Cool Spot

Avoid positioning your tree near heat sources like fireplaces, heaters, vents, and direct sunlight. Excess heat can cause the tree to dry out faster, reducing its freshness and longevity.

5. Safe and Eco-Friendly Disposal

When the holiday season ends, recycling your tree properly is essential. Here’s how to do it:

  • Curbside Pickup: Many cities offer curbside Christmas tree recycling on specific dates. Check with your local municipality for guidelines.

  • Local Recycling Centers: Some areas have drop-off locations that recycle trees into mulch, a great eco-friendly option.

6. Convenient Cleanup Options

To make tree removal hassle-free, ask us about disposable Christmas tree bags. These bags help contain needles and reduce mess when it’s time to take the tree out, keeping your space clean and tidy.
